Question

My washing machine drains through a rubber hose into a standpipe. When the machine drains the tub, the water drains out slowly and eventually runs out of the top of the standpipe. The flattened water trap prevents me from getting a snake past it. I have used Draino liquid, Liquid Plummer liquid, Liquid Plummer foam, and the device that one puts on the end of a hose to shoot water pulses down the drain. None of these work. I would welcome suggestions.

You can rent a machine to clear this line out, but I wouud say call a drain cleaning company, renting and running the machine is not all that easy, some things can be difficult, and it might be cost effective to just call a drain cleaning company.

This happened to me in my new (old) house last month. Rescue Rooter was able to solve the problem (and many more potential problems, given the amount of gunk he pulled out of there...) in about 30 minutes.
