I have a cabin using well water . I had a new hot tank put it. The hot water smells like rotten eggs. The plumber then remove a rod from the tank. For a while it was ok , but now the smell is back. Is it the whole tank or the water. Is there anything I can place in the tank to remove the iron?

Cool

If the smell is only in the hot water and not the cold, then it has to be coming from the water heater tank. If this heater tank sits up for periods of time, harmless, but foul-smelling bacteria can build up in the tank. Simply, turn off power to heater, and flush with water through tank and lines until the odor is gone. Good Luck!
