I have a crack in the shower drain about 2 feet long. i want to replace this section of the pipe. the pipe appears to be older black metal pipe. they are joined together with the smaller end going into a wider end and a rubber seal around it. how do i take these apart so as to replace just the section needed. any ideas??

Is there metal bands around the rubber coupling? Loosen these up, cut out the bad section of pipe and install a new section, you may need a second rubber coupling for the other end of the pipe you cut out.

Main Sewer Line

When washing machine drains or upstairs toilet is flushed, the basement toilet bubbles and then overflows and/or leaks from underneath. Used 100' electrical snake with a cutting bit. Went thru the clog, could hear the water drain out of the pipe. Pulled snake out and noticed dark hair and fine roots. Put the snake thru again and did not feel a clog. Drained fine for two days, but on day 3 the line backed up again. Should I snake again using a different bit? Should I try chemicals? Every 6 months we use root destroyer(blue crystals)! Help!!

Palmer valve

Could someone explain how I would check if my palmer valve is working properly and how I would go about replacing this valve if it is stuck shut. I think this is the correct name for the valve that is between the drain tile and the floor drain in the basement. I can see this valve when I look down into my floor drain. Thanks, Mark.
