Question

I just tiled my bathroom, and now the closet flange is 1 & 1/8 inches below grade. I tried using an extended wax ring, but when I put the toilet down I couldn’t feel it seat into the wax. I pulled the toilet up to see why and saw that the wax was barely making contact with the flange. Any suggestions that don’t include pulling up tile?

Try using a extender closet flange. They are about 1/2" thick and are made for this purpose. It fits right on top of your old closet flange and costs about $2 at a home store. The combination of a extender ring and wax gasket should solve your problem.

How is the extender ring attached to the original ring?

Cool

Had same problem, and simply doubled two wax rings with plastic sleeves. Works for me. Good Luck!

Old guy is right. But in my experience, I bought two rings - one with a flange, and one without. I slapped the flange-less one on top and molded them together as one tall ring by hand. I've done about a dozen of them and never had it fail. I guess I can't see any reason not to use two flanged types together. Seems like the alignment would be improved this way. Nice.
