flush-tub gurgles-vent clear

I'm stumped. When I flush the toilet, the bathtub drain gurgles. I went up on roof and looked down the vent and dropped a snake down - no clog.
I do know that the drain pipe from the vanity sink is about 50% clogged with age-old hard crud. don't know if that would cause the other problem.
Ideas?
thanks

Does the toilet flush good? If say the main sewer was slow (due to tree roots or whatever), when the toilet was flushed, the water could back up the tub drain line and actually push air into the trap of the tub causing noise, in theory.

Can you describe the shape of your bathroom, and the layout of the fixtures?

You may well be right about the sewer pipe. We've had to have it cleared before due to root growth, but at that time it backed up into a basement drain, which it is not doing this time.

Bathroom layout is this: toilet and sink are on the same wall about 3.5 feet apart. Bath drain sits across from sink about 4 feet away. All fixtures drain into main stack at toilet.
Although the gurgling happened from time to time before, since recently replacing the old toilet with a 1.6 gal low flow and the new sink - the problem has worsened.
Ideas greatly appreciated.
thanks
