Question

I am retiling my kitchen floor and I want to remove the cast iron radiator that is there. Any hints as to how to go about this myself?

My advice would be "Don't even think about it." If it's a cast iron water or steam rad, then the chances are pretty good that once you put it back together, you'll end up with a water or steam leak.

Consider buying a thin slab of cultured marble approximately the same colour as your tiles from a place that uses the stuff for counter tops, sliding that under the radiator and tiling up to the marble. That way it looks decent and you don't run the risk of trading a tiling headache for a plumbing headache.
