Question

can a tankless waterheater replace a 30gal electrical htr with the same current? it seems a sin to keep the temp up in our tank.we are just two people.i saw a sys on "this old h.",now i'm wondering.

From my limited experience with tankless water heaters, I think you would be shooting yourself in the foot to make the change. A better way (and a lot less expensive) to go would be to install a timer on your present water heater. Use Intermatic's "Little Gray Box" and set it to come for about an hour in the morning before your hot water demand starts and again for an hour or so in the evening. We had one in our house for years (before converting to gas), and even raising 2 kids, never ran out of hot water. There is a manual override switch so you can turn it on when the demand changes (such as getting a house full of company!)
