Removing valve

I have a valve I need to replace due to a leak in it. My problem is how to properly remove it. Can I just simply heat it up to loosen the connections and remove it or do I need to do some cutting?

Is this a solder on, compression type, or thread on type, ball or gate valve, where is it located, what does it go to?

Is it Ok to use compression fittings to repair copper hot water lines? And if not why?

shower stall shower head has steady drip

I have a shower stall whose shower head is dripping-apparently from the head itself. It will not turn off, although it "seems" to drip more slowly when the on/off water temp. knob is turned all the way to cold. Is the problem likely to be in the shower head itself, in the control knob, or in the pipes between them. And, is it likely that a novice could fix it?
