If you close the main shut off in the house, and that doesn't stop it until you shut off the power to the well pump,it would be a leak between the pump and the house. check in your well house/pit. If its leaking underground in the yard it may not show for a long time. Also, depending on the type of system you have, you could be hearing the pump itself running. You might check to see if the pressure switch is stuck on.
Good Luck,plumber john

We have been looking everywhere!!!! NO leaks anywhere! My husband dug holes in the yard where he new there were connections, but the ground was not wet! We looked in the well,NO pressure valve, just small wire connection box,a pressure gauge, and an electronic eye. We also have a holding tank in the ground, next to the well, and a hydrant.they were all installed new last summer! We also sat and listened to the pump,it was kicking on and off about every 3-5 minutes. frustrated BIG!!

Cool

The "small wire connection box" IS your pressure switch. It should have either one or two spring-loaded nuts that control the cut-on and cut-off.
If it has two nuts, the smaller will be the cut-off and the larger will be the cut-on. If it just has one nut, it will control the cutoff, and the cut-on will automatically be 30 lbs or so less than whatever it is set at.
Turn off power to pump, if you are not sure about yourself around hot electrical connections (they will be exposed when you open the pressure switch box).
Adjust the nut(s) downward about a turn to make sure that they aren't just hanging up. If that does not solve problem, you may have lost adequate pressure in your pressure tank. It should have a pressure valve that looks like a tire valve. Check it with a tire pressure gauge to see if it has the pressure that is listed on the tank (should be about the same as cut-on pressure). If it does not, pump it up with a portable air tank or a tire hand pump. Good Luck!
Edit: Like my friend Plumber John said, you may well just have a leak. If you don't think that it is on the discharge (house water) side, it may be an air leak on the suction (well) side at a fitting or whatever. If adjusting the pressure switch and making sure that the pressure tank has the right pressure doesn't stop it...keep checking for leaks. Good Luck!
