Are you on city water?

Does it knock all the time, or just when the water flow starts or stops?

This is probably classic water hammer, which is caused by pipes not properly secured. It is probably NOT caused by air in the pipes (how come everybody wants to blame everything on air in the pipes?).

Your choices are: (1) ignore the noise, (2) secure the pipes, or (3) install water hammer eliminators. I recommend (1).
