I had to remove one a couple of weeks ago that the PO had poured lye down and really corroded the drain. Luckily the pipes were ABS so no harm done there. I had to use a cold chisel at a sharp angle driving it in a CCW direction. Don't use a 2 lb sledge, just tap it with a regular hammer until it starts to move and when it gets too tight against the front of the tub, start a new bite. It should loosen up enough for you to remove with a drain removal tool (looks like a tuning fork), although the lye had eaten the cross pieces out of the one I removed.
