DIY pipe cover

My home has cont. hot water heat which works quite well.
I want to cover the pipes in the cold basement.
I've seen the long black foam tubes at Lowe's and I'm not convinced they're adequate.
What about those large dia. white covers.

Are you referring to the covers used in commercial boiler applications? Very expensive. The foam covers, if installed continuously and taped properly where they turn will do just fine.
