Getting Plumbing Schematic for Home

Hello All,

I am installing a whole house water filter. I need to place it on the main water line coming into the house... Problem is there is not enough pipe available outside the house to attach the filter.

I am attempting to cut out a section of wall inside the home to access the incoming water before it branches off to the rest of the house...

Now, I can make holes in the walls trying to guess where this is, but I am sure there has to be a better way.

Does the town keep plumbing schematics or blueprints on record that I could get copies of?

If anyone knows how I can get that info I would really appreciate the help.

Thanks,
Carina, FL

It's unusual for mechanical plans to be submitted for residential plumbing. It's possible that your jurisdiction requires it, but unlikely.

Someone familiar with plumbing could make an educated guess about where to open the wall, and you may need someone like that to install the filter anyway. You may want to ask friends/neighbors for a referral to a local plumber.

Assuming you live in a fair weather climate, keeping the filter outside with the shutoff valve, etc. may be your best bet. It of course depends on where the water line comes into the house and whether you really want a filter sitting there.

Is there any reason you think the water line doesn't come straight through the wall from the outside? Or am I not understanding the setup?
