Need some advice on a Toilet Install.

Had a new tile floor installed(over existing tile). The tiles are not very thick. Anyway, went to install the new toilet and water is leaking out to the sides. I used a brand new wax ring and seated it properly. I have installed toilets before and have not had this problem. Any thoughts. Thanks!

A "jumbo" wax ring is a little taller than a standard ring and might be enough to seal the extra-tall gap between the flange and the toilet base.

Another option would be to remove the existing flange and then install the new flange flush with the new tile. Getting the old flange off can be a challenge. This would be the best long-term option if you are up for it.

If the first option doesn't work and you dread the idea of replacing the flange then you could try adding a plain wax ring (wax only, no rubber collar) on top of a regular wax ring. To do this, take a propane torch and heat both surfaces of the wax rings where they will mate. With both surfaces still hot immediately join them together. A word of caution....if there is too much wax you run the risk of blocking the drain.
