Shower diverter leak

I have a single-handle shower/tub water control with the shower diverter plunger underneath the handle. When I push the diverter in to send the water to the showerhead, I still have a flow of water coming from the tub spout. Does anyone know how I can fix this without calling a plumber??

Many thanks!!
Vic

Oops...sorry! It's a Delta faucet, single handle with the diverter plunder underneath. You have to push the plunger in to send water to the showerhead. I don't have any idea what model # it is. The house was built back in the 80's if that makes any difference.

Any help at all will be very appreciated!!
