Metal threads very tight, but still have a leak?

I have connected two metal pipe threads together for my water supply. I used some teflon tape, and the threads are as tight as I can get by hand, but there is still a small leak and water droplets coming through. What could I have done wrong? Should the teflon tape extend farther down past the threads? Should I not use teflon tape? Both of my water supplies leak, and although you can't see it, beneath the escutcheon where it connects to a brass thread, it is leaking there as well. Thanks for any help!

ya more teflon tape... so bassically when you start to thread your fitting on.. you should be getting some resistance from the tape sealing the connection.. and also you should use a wrench to tighten more.. not just hand tight.. as water pressure can be high in places..

you only need 3-4 wraps of teflon tape then a dab of teflon paste and more than hand tight

You guys were right. I bought some extra thick teflon tape, wrapped it 3-4 times, and used teflon paste and wrench-tightened it and that worked. Thanks!
