Installing a moen posi temp on mirolin 3 pc tub/shower

I have a Mirolin KD53L and want to install a Moen posi temp single level control on it. From the directions it seems that if the backer is less than 1/4" I can cut a small hole just for the control to stick through and leave the plastic plate behind the shower acrylic?

With that said, is there any tips for mounting the control? I will be removing some drywall behind the shower/tub unit to do my connections, so I was wondering if the control unit needs to be mounted to a piece of wood, or if it is suffecient to just mount it to the shower unit itself for strength?

Any other tips from those that have done this install?

Moen Valve

You have to mount it to some wood behind the tub.
