bathtub valve seat is stripped

The cold water valve has a leak and after removing the stem (gerber) and replacing the washer, it would still leak. I realized the removable seat was worn. I tried removing it using a seat wrench (non tapered) but the the threads are stripped.

Any ideas on what is the best way to go about removing the stripped seat?

If going the nipple extractor route, what type and size should I get?

If an "easy out" also known as a screw extractor will reach try that.As for size it depends on how big the hole is in the seat, you'll have to judge it that way.

If the threads are stripped, not the hole in the middle of the seat, you have a bigger problem than the seat because the threads in the assembly very well may be stripped or damaged and a new seat won't fix that.

I was able to get it out using a tapered seat wrench, a few taps with a hammer and some WD40.

Question, how tightly should the seat be in the fitting? I put some teflon tape on the fitting threads as well.
