Watersoftener noise and test of water
#1
1.After water softens, we get noise in the pipes, from the running water. What is the cause and remedy?
2. Is there a way I can test my water for softness. so as to determine when to soften it?
I was told if only my wife and I use the water, to soften it once a week.
Is that sufficient?
If there was a way to maually check the softness what is it?
Thanks

You should be able to pickup up a test kit at your local home improvement store. If not there then check with a water conditioning company. I have heard the one week figure also, but it really depends on the amount used and the capacity of your system to soften water. A test kit is a good idea if you want to be sure. Not sure about the noise. Is it like air gurgling or are the pipes vibrating?

Re: Softener and Noise::To:SCHIEJR
Thank you for the reply and help.
I just located the problem of the noise (I think),
It seems to be coming from the toilet valve assy as I push down on the top of it and it changes pitch and even quiets until I let up.
I am going to find a replacement and install it.
The sound is a squealing vibration type.
I thank you again
