Brass to black pipe

I want to add a gas shut-off valve to my furnace. I went to the depot and they didn't have any made of black pipe. Can I use a brass shutoff valve attached to black pipe, and if so, do I need to do anything special?
Thanks

Pretty sure brass is just fine...I've never seen one made of steel for residential use.

Make sure you use the right tape/dope for gas....

Sure you can, just make sure it's rated for gas.
