Question

I have three tiolets in my house, two up and one down. I am only experiencing problems with one of the upstairs toilets and so I don't think there is anything systemic.

The problems are as follows:

1) When I flush the toilet, water bubbles up at the start, as if air had been pushed out from the trap at the same time as the water starts to flow downward. This has been more of an annoyance than anything but I have not been able to explain it.

2) Now the toilet is backing up. I have used a toilet auger and a plunger but it still backs up. No waste has been brought back up, there is just water.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

So it's only one toilet. That pretty much rules out a clogged waste line. So what did one of the kids flush down the toilet? Since an auger won't clear it, you'll probably have to pull the toilet and retrieve it from the throat. Something like a plastic toy is wedged in the trap of the toilet. Just use a new wax ring and new toilet bolts when you reinstall it.
