Cap/seal retired galvinized water piping?

I have replaced my existing galvinized water lines with pex and am wondering what to do int he event that I cannot removed all of the old galvinized.

The work is on the second floor, and the galvinized pipes are cut in the basement and on the second floor. Should I seal or cap these lines in any way? Or does it make no difference at all?

You don't need to do anything with them if they are disconnected at each end. This is known as "abandoned in place".
