Slow drips from tub drain pipe into basement

The water drips are pointed out by the arrows:

The drips only seemed to form and fall once you turn the tub off, although I may have missed it while it was running since I was looking around in other places while it was running.

Is there a simple solution to this without involving a plumber? Maybe some kind of spray-on leak stopping substance?

Hi,

You can try sealers, tapes, puttys, epoxys or whatever you think will work. In all reality the tub waste and overflow needs to be changed. Most if not all plumbers will use PVC so it will probably be the last time you change it.

I dont recommend this as a DIY friendly job. Even plumbers ( myself ) have trouble getting the old strainers out sometimes.

Your in NY and if you have NJ prices the box truck plumbers will charge about $800 for that job.

Just telling you like it is.

Don't you hate it when you put your drain wrench down in there and start to push and the 'cross' in the drain breaks and your hand smashes into the cast iron tub?

It looks like you do have pretty good access though... I would certainly try that myself... even more so if there was another bathroom available in the home. What's to lose?

I can buy a lot of beer for $800 !
