Leaking Water Pressure Regulator

I have a leak at the regulator screw/lock nut (not sure if that's the correct terminology).
Would cleaning the strainer screen stop the leak, or does the whole thing need to be replaced.
Does a plumber need to perform the repair?
No problems with water pressure, and it only leaks when water is used somewhere in the house.

They have repair kits for them but they are as much as a new valve. A new valve is about 50 bucks.

Thank you for your reply. Is it easy enough for a person w/ no experience to do?

Yes if you get the same tupe the connections may be similar. A union on one side, reusable, and threaded connnection on the other.
