Please help us! My sister went to turn our shower on and turned the handle (that changes the water from coming out of the tub to coming out of the shower) too far. The handle normally only turns half way, she turned it 3/4 of the way around. We got the handle back to its normal position, but now the water comes out of both the tub faucet and the shower head. And it seems to be only the hot water that comes out of the tub faucet - not the cold (while the shower is going). Now we are running out of hot water half way through our showers.

What is it that is broken? How do we fix it?

Please help us!

Shut off the water to the valve. (You'll probably have to shut off the water to the house to do this.) Remove the diverter stem. Take it to a plumbing supply or one of the big box stores (Home Depot, Lowes, etc.) and get a like stem to replace it. Once you replace teh stem, all should be fine. If you have a problem, repost, and we can help you out.

Before you remove the diverter valve, you might want to check to see if there is a set screw that holds the handle in the right place on the diverter valve stem. You may just need to loosen the set screw, adjust it so it is contacting the flat portion of the stem, and re-tighten it.

If this does not work, or n/a to your shower, follow Lefty's recommendation.

Good Luck,

Rick
