Question

the diverter is on the wall, between the hot and cold handles and lets water come out of tub spout while taking a shower. ? is can it be replaced or do I need to have the all the shower fixtures updated. It's about 15 years old.
There is no way to get behind it and the front is all tiled. Thanx

Take the trim and the handle off the diverter stem, use a set of stem sockets to remove the stem if you can't get the stem out.

Either take it and have it rebuilt of buy a replacement stem.

Home Depot can help you fix it.

Smile Diverter Fix

Thanx. I tried to be sneaky and installed a diverter spout on a non-diverter type bath spout. It did divert more water to the shower but still came out of the spout while taking a shower. I don't think my handyman knew about the long socket to remove and replace the wall diverter. I was looking at a $500. job to replace everything, but it sounds like it will be more like a $100. hired plumber job.

Or a $15 to 25$ replacement if you can do it yourself.
