Ouch!! Broken catch drain for cloths washing machine drain.

So my neighbors free standing 3 ft high catch drain aprox 2" dia specifically designed for her cloths washing machine was slightly clogged. The water was coming up the 3 foot pipe and spilling over. She asked me to look at it since I do most of the handy man things for this elderly single women. well upon slight force the casting catch drain broke so I must take these rusty piece out and figure a way to incorporate some pvc into this drain system. Which thus feeds into a 3" vertical drain. Any suggestions? I know this may be hard to visualize or understand since its hard to explain. will try and post a pix.

Yes post a pic.

I assume its steel pipe? Probably can use a no hub fitting but will need to support pipe if so.
