Water Problems of the plumbing kind

the water goes into the cistern of the upstairs toilet causing the extra water to go into the toilet when the taps.washing machine other toilet etc are used downstairs and upstairs Help!!!!!!! haven't a clue why, been doing it now for sometime my poor legs are getting shorter when I have to keep going upstairs to flush the toilet which seems to make it stop until the taps are used again....do I have gremlins or is there a solution???

Welcome to the forums!

It sounds like your fill valve is shot. This is the part that controls the flow of water into the tank, and stops when it gets to a certain height. You may be able to get replacement pieces for it (it may just need a new washer). In the US, it's often easier to just replace the whole fill valve assembly.

Where in the world are you?
