Drain Rods vs Snake

I had a stubbornly clogged drain so I did a lot of research online on how best to unclog it. One thing I noticed is that British plumbers/DIYers seem to use drain rods while American's use pipe snakes. Is this an accurate observation? Has anyone used drain rods with success? I ordered some online because they were not very expensive and I hate that wet, dirty, and inevitably rusty snake.

IDK... I never used them. Seems to just push the clog along. Usues manual labor and you can only push so far and hard to get any distance.

Try cutting roots with a drain rod at 100 ft.... Not!!!!!
