trap odors

When my clothes washer drains my kitchen sink emits a bad odor. What should I do? The clothes washer is the last thing on a lateral plumbing line. The kitchen sink is the second to last. Each has its own trap. I'm guessing that the big push of water from the washer pushes air past the kitchen trap and up the sink. It gurgles when this happens. Would a deeper kitchen sink trap solve this problem?
Thank you for your help.

You may be siphoning the water out of the kitchen trap. I'd first check for a plugged vent line. Look on the roof, above the sink and washer for a pipe about 2" in diameter. Look down it for leaves, pine needles, etc. and remove any. Run a water hose with a high pressure nozzle down the vent line.

This all assumes your plumbing was installed per code and has the required vents.
