Question about point wells

We just had a plumber install a new shallow well jet pump for us, and he thinks the point may be starting to fail/clog. There is an occasional surging noise, that he thinks may be the water not flowing freely from the well. Is there any sort of test to see what's going on, or any maintenance that may help? The new pump has been primed, and the tank pressurized to 28 lbs. as well.

Are point wells even installed anymore? Thanks.

It depends on where you live... Yes well points are installed all the time, but for different reasons..

Are you sure you have a well point???? How many lines from the pump and what pipe material is it???

Let us know....

I was under the impression that the point needs to be matched to the pump.

Point well

Yes, I'm sure we have a point well. The piping is galvanized from the pump, and there's a inlet and a discharge. It's the 1/2 HP "Red Lion" jet pump from Mills Fleet Farm. It was just installed yesterday.

Is it possible the plumber installed a pump that is larger or has more capacity that the old one?
There is a belief that bigger is better but in pressure and even sump pumps, installing bigger more often than not creates problems from the increased flow rate.

No. It's the same as the old one, 1/2 HP.
