Any idea what this is?

I am pretty sure it's a plumbing related item. I bought a faucet from someone who used to own a plumbing supply store, I think he was cleaning out his garage.

So I went to look at the faucet, which was a Newport Brass faucet normally listed for over $700 but he sold it to me for $50 everything new in original box. After I paid he said to me "hey you might be able to use these why don't you take them off my hands instead of me trying to get rid of them..."

So he gave me another box with a bunch of stuff. Grab bars, towel rings, soap dispensers, shower arms, some shower heads etc...

The only item I couldn't figure out what it is, is this...can anyone tell what this is?

I do not see any brand name or model on it. I have two, but I don't know if it's a pair of something or not.

What could it be? A pair of towel racks? Something you use to anchor a glass shower door?

Any ideas?

I don't know what it is, but it's not a curtain rod.

My first thought was part of a towel warmer. Missing the actual warmer of course.

Sorry I didn't provide some measurements.

These are not that big, the long side is only about 16". Because of that I doubt it is a shower curtain rod.

It's also heavy, the "rod" portion is probably solid metal. I think a shower rod will have a larger diameter, and will not require set screws on both ends to dis-assemble.

Hmmmm....just noticed. The ends with the slots and the setscrew arrangement look very similar to some glass shelf mounting brackets I have in my kitchen and bath. Are the slots about 3/8" wide?

Gunguy45, that's about right.

and Pulpo's latest link to a shower support bar is very close.

I think it is pretty certain one end of it holds glass. I am betting shower support bars.

I guess its out of the question to re-contact the guy you bought them from to ask what they are? They look like nice solid pieces, but can't tell what if anything pivots. I would assume glass supports would have a larger attachment spindle given the small hole in the base with set screw. It also looks like a weak way/configuration to support glass, at least plate glass for shower walls.

I did ask him at the time, he said he doesn't remember.

Yes it is very heavy and solid.
