Pipe Size Question

Hi,

I have just finished the building of a new home and just realized when attempting to install a water filter that the one inch pipe out of my wells pressure tank changes to 1.25 inches and I'm not sure why.

The 1 inch pipe runs from the pressure tank for 4 inches, then I have a 90* elbow where the pipe changes sizes from 1 inch to 1.25 inches before changing back to smaller pipes for fixtures later on down the line (appx 20 feet from the pressure tank). Anyone have an idea why the plumber did this? Why not just run the 1 inch pipe the enitre way? Wouldn't this cause a pressure loss which currently is adequate? Is this to code?

Thanks,
Marc

I don't see any reason that it should have been installed lik ethat. For 20', it's not going to make any difference. Maybe they had some extra 1.25" pipe lying around? 1" is quite sufficient and 3/4" is typical. I've been in my share of houses plumbed with 1/2" all around and it hasn't been that bad.
