exposed sewer pipe

The house is in Colorado. The house was built in the 50's. The sewer line comes out of the house 36" above the ground, runs horizontal along the house 48", then runs vertical where it enters the ground on its way to the septic tank. The existing pipe is 3" PVC. Is it OK to use ABS or PVC where it is exposed to sunlight? If not, what pipe should be used?

I find no issues with PVC use outdoors.

As a matter of fact some of the pool plumbing I have worked on ( pvc at the filter) have no detrimental effects of uv light. And some installations were 25 yrs plus being out in the elements. The cold weather here in the east I believe causes more damage making the pipe brittle in freezing temps..

Although I would probably paint the pipe to give it added protection..

I would not use ABS outdoors...

Is PVC and CPVC pipe UV resistant? | US Plastic Corporation

It would be interesting to see a picture of this.
I'd be more concerned with possible impact damage.
