Pipe wrench damage

I was tightening a copper male adapter and made some deep scratches on the nut portion with my pipe wrench. Do you think scratching/gouging up fitting like this with a pipe wrench weakens the integrity of the fitting?

I have never had trouble with tool marks on metal fittings. Generally the metal is thicker in the hex area providing extra protection.
