yard hydrant stuck

When I pull on the handle of my yard hydrant the handle pulls up but is not pulling the rod up with it. I have tightened the bolt on the handle and it still slides up the rod. I use it twice a week and it just stopped. Any thoughts. Thanks

Hello and welcome....

Does it feel loose like the rod broke? That is common, but possibly you have a handle issue thats not lifting the rod..

Can you post a picture of your hydrant as there are many different styles? They all operate about the same way but have different methods of attaching the rod to the handle. What bolt did you tighten? There is usually two bolts or pins on the lever. One is the pivot point for the lever while the other connects the handle to the rod. If you can move the handle and the rod does not move I suspect the connection to the rod is disconnected, broken or loose.
