Hi I have a problem with hammering pipes also. It happens at the backyard tap. It started recently after the owner of my house repaired a leaking pipe. I have a small plant nursery and it is very frustrating because the only way I can water the plants without the hammering is to run the hose at full pressure (which squirts the potting mix out of the pots). You'll say I should call the owner again but I am too busy and hoped not to have to. A friend said it could be something to do with an air blockage in the pipes and there is a way to clear it by turning all the taps on and turning them off in order from closest to furtherist to the front tap or visa versa. He wasn't sure of the order. Does anyone know more about this? (Most of the pipes have been changed to copper but I am not sure if they all are, the house is about 50 -60 years old) Thanks if you do, Olly
I have a 1970 built rambler on a slab. The shower pipes 'sometimes ' hammer when turned on, altho not every time. Sometimes slowly turning them on will work without hammering. They never hammer when diverted to the shower head, only when diverted to the tub spout. Also when the hot water is turned on full blast and then when the cold water is turned on the pressure drops. when the cold water is then turned off, the pressue still stays low. I have galvanized pipes and have removed the diverter valve and examined it, but it appears OK. I am at a loss as to how to fix this compound problem. Thanks for your help!!!
