Pipe arm for shower is leaking

The shower arm is leaking and I've tried Teflon tape without success. So I've tried Plumber's Putty and still it leaks. The pipe in the wall has 3/4" thread and the shower pipe arm has 1/2" of thread an it only threads in about 1/4". Any suggestions?

I assume you're talking about the goose neck pipe that come out of the wall and the shower head screws onto. Are you sure there is a washer inserted? The threads should be an interference pipe thread (typical). You should be able to tighten it very firmly and thoretically not need tape or putty. Exactly where does it leak? At the threaded connection of the shower head?

Sounds like someone may crossed threaded the shower arm or the drop leg tee inside the wall.
Inspect both for burrs or damaged threads.
Plumbers putty is useless on threads, you need Teflon pipe dope.
Many time using both a few wraps of tape and some dope over that will work.
