Question

My bathtub faucet leaks. My shower will also leak if I turn the water off but leave the water diverted to the shower. How do I fix this problem. Do i have to buy a new system?

Probably all you need to do is replace the faucet seat washers. Shut the water off the the faucet first, either behind the tub faucet wall or at the main water shutoff.

If you look at this picture, it is pretty self explanatory how to get to the washers, but if you need more help, post back.

You may be seeing the same problem, or you may be describing 2 different problems. The tub's leak first. you need to replace the washers, and possibly the seats also, in the tub valve. If this is a cartridge type valve, replace the cartridge. That's pretty straight forward. Now the shower leak. Is this water leaking from the shower head, or the tub spout? With the diverter up, after the water is shut off, if the water is leaking from the shower head, the above fix should cure it. But if the water is trickling out of the tub spout, that's an indication that your diverter valve or seal is getting weak. Give us more information about what type of valve and diverter you have and one of us can give you more information about how to go about fixing it.
