Kitchen sink leak

Hi folks,

Just wondering if anyone has any quick tips or tricks that I can use to fix a very minor leak under my kitchen sink. A tiny amount of water leaks out from the plastic slip nut at the bottom of the pvc tail pipe. I have tightened it (hand tightened) as much as I can, but it still leaks a tiny amount of water. Would putting some petroleum jelly around the washer seal the leak? Maybe I just need a new washer?

Thanks!!

Replace the washer. It may be cracked or the nut itself is cracked... Also use teflon paste arounf threads and washer when tightening... Hand tight with hot water running down the drain...

Lawrosa......Thanks for the reply. I'll have to make a closer inspection of the washer to see if it's cracked. Can I use teflon tape on the threads instead of the paste or is the paste the best way to go? I'm assuming I can't really use teflon tape around the washer though, right?

paste only... Tape will restrict on how much you can tighten...
