Question Copper and black sedement inside pipes?

I took both line strainers out and one was really nasty with this black stuff and the other was just fully clogged.. What and where is that black stuff from? The pipe is copper.

Are we talking about hot & cold water? How old is the hot water heater?

Are you on a well or municipal water supply? How old is the plumbing in the house? Is this the only time you've removed the strainers or is this clogging happening repeatedly?

What strainers are we talking about?

Can be braided hoses. Or a reaction to bleach that the city uses with copper lines...Actually they stopped using bleach and the chloromines they use deteriorates rubber.. Or a bad carbon filter...

May be hard to pin point.
