Can something be used in place of gasket in compression fitting?
I have a Laufen bidet, about 30 years old that had been imported from Europe at the time. When the boiler in our house failed a while back, we had some damage to our plumbing when the temperature dropped. Fortunately the damage was minor overall, but this particular bidet was leaking heavily when we turned the water back on. I found out it was due to a split in a gasket in the compression fitting for the hot water supply. It is T-shaped; the intake pipe fits inside a larger pipe, with the gasket separating the two. The end of the gasket compresses against a flared out part of the inner pipe.
This bidet has been long out of production, and I've had no luck finding a replacement for this gasket, and checked the Laufen website.
Is there an alternative I can use for this gasket, a type of putty or silicone that can be used for compression fittings?
