Shower 2-inch Trap Delimma
I'm looking at a job where the drain was roughed in years ago (2-inch stub below a concrete floor with 24" x 24" cutout for wiggle room) and am just now putting in the shower.
While trial fitting, I hit a snag: the shower drain is closer to the wall than I anticipated back then and this puts the trap about an inch past the opening in the shower base. The pictures will explain it better than I can.
2-inch pipe, 2-inch drain fitting. It's all good except the pipe doesn't line up with the opening! I have some thoughts on how to remedy this and don't really like any of them. How would you guys fix this?

Chandler,
Here's 2 shots of the trap without the pan.
Lawrosa,
The 2-inch cleanout cap is not glued in. It was there just to keep dirt out. I should have removed it before taking pics to avoid confusion. Sorry 'bout that. The pipe is not in line with the hole but it's close ... between 5 and 10 degrees offset I reckon.
In case you're wondering what the stub is, its a 45° street ell glued into a 3x2 wye, shown in the last 2 pics. I don't see any practical way to relocate that.

flip the 90° street elbow
No, the trap is not glued in. Next time I'm at plumbing supply, I'm gonna see if they have a "shorter" p-trap. The one in the pic measures 8-inches from the center of the inlet to the outlet. If I can find one that's 7-inches that will solve the problem. I have no idea if such a thing exists.
If that 90° street ell part of the trap was male on both ends, that would shorten the trap's overall length by about 3/4 inch. That would be getting close.
EDIT: got to thinking ... why not make my own double male elbow? First picture shows the trap in what I'll call standard configuration. Second pic show the street elbow flipped with a nipple connecting it to the U. This reduces its overall length from 8 inches to just under 6-1/2 inches!
Any reason that 90° street elbow shouldn't be flipped?

Things to try.
This will probably work.
Stick the street end into the 3x2 Y. Then cut a small piece for the trap. Trap will be lower in the dirt but OK... ( Hope you understand this..)
Other things to try...
Make your own trap with two street ells. See what the center to center is with that.
Or try an la trap. These have the union and often have closer centers.. ( Hard trap is code I believe under ground though AFAIK .)
Or on the part of trap looking down in shower hole insert two street 22's to make the offset to center of shower base...

lawrosa, looks like we both came to the same conclusion, see my edited post before your last response. This will definitely solve the installation problem with room to spare!

My saying this will definitely solve the problem was a bit premature. "Room to spare" isn't always a good thing ... that didn't soak in right away.
Good suggestion lawrosa, making a trap U from 2 ells. Standard ell + street ell is 1/2" shorter than the standard U. Perfect fit!
Thanks for the help.
By the way, the pipe you see going into the trap is pieced together with scraps I had handy for trial fitting. I am replacing that with a single pipe when the glue can gets opened.
