Bathtub faucet in shower?

Watching Love It Or List It and often see a bathtub faucet spout about a foot off the floor of a shower. Why?

Ankle catcher? Foot washer? Bad planning? Really don't have an idea.

I've seen it in many showers on that show. It's filmed in Canada so I'm thinking its a code thing?

It's very common in other parts of the world. I've asked in Costa Rica and one person sorta look at me like I'm an idiot and said "to fill your bucket for cleaning". Maybe I don't do enough cleaning but I didn't think that was a good enough reason for it to be so common. Another person said it was so you could feel the temp of the water and get it set correctly before sending it up to the shower head.

Sounds like a great way to screw up an ankle while taking a bath if you don't notice it.

I've seen that as well as I surfed by. I believe they did say it was just for cleaning feet/lower legs or filling buckets.

Filling a bucket? A spout set at the normal height will fill the bucket just as well.

Don't these people have kitchens? Why go upstairs just to fill a bucket?

Ever try getting a five gallon bucket under a kitchen faucet? Not to mention lowering it down when filled.

In the 21st century doesn't every kitchen sink have a pullout sprayer? Ever try lugging a 5 gallon bucket filled with water down a flight of stairs?

Why put it at the normal height if it's a walk-in shower? He did say about 12"...I think they are normally a bit higher, not many buckets only 12" tall.

Here's something else, I have very sweaty feet that get pretty stinky if I wear boots or shoes. All my wives complained about it (now divorced so I could care less for the present) and I would have to either take a full shower or awkwardly sit on the edge of a bathtub to wash them. A spout like that would have been very convenient.

I don't think anyone uses a 5 gal bucket for cleaning. And what if you have...say, a tiled bathroom and a laundry room upstairs? Now you have to lug a bucket upstairs, right?

And no, not every kitchen has a pull out sprayer. Plus, those have very low flow compared to a tub spout.

Not trying to argue, but you asked what it was for and we offered our ideas.
