new shower drain question

hello, I am replacing a tiled shower with one of those fiberglass type kits. The old drain is imbedded in grout/mortar and attached to cast iron piping. house was built in 50's. so what's my easiest/best way to hook this new shower drain up? The cast iron looks good, but after the trap where it goes into the fitting right above the trunk line, it just lifted out, and it doesn't seem to have been sealed at that junction. Is that normal?

When I pour water down the old drain it doesn't leak there, but that's questionable, at least to me, just a regular person who enjoys diy.

So i guess there's two questions here. Many thanks for considering my post !

If it is/was a leaded joint you have issues to fix and it may not be easy..

But I would need to see a pic of what your talking about...

Cant see where it goes into. Is that a rubber banded coupling?

I would probably convert to PVC at certain points..

in the second pic, that coupling is on the ground, basically, and goes into the septic line, I don't see any rubber or evidence of rubber, it could be all gone. the whole pipe just lifted right out of that coupling with little effort.

how would I connect new pvc to that coupling in the second pic and not have a leak? thanks a lot too

Another issue, there is no vent for that shower drain... Whats that stack look like on the right of the pic?

Also are walls open that you can get a vent to the attic?

If that shower is in a bathroom where are the other fixtures pipes?

Do it right know IMO or youll just be hacking it up with that old piping..

I will take some better close-up pictures tomorrow. This bath is a 4 x 8 bathroom with a sink, toilet, and the shower, and one vent services all three. It's right in the middle of the room, I'll try to get a picture so you could see it. Thanks again
