Gas Log Kit Piping

Hello

Considering a gas log set for my home (converting a wood burning fireplace) This would be a direct vent type of kit. I am looking for a way to run the gas piping into the firebox. I am unable to come in from the side of the firebox, nor from the back, however there is an ash clean-out directly under the grate that holds the wood. would it be acceptable to use this chase-way to run my pipe?

Thanks

Kevn

I would ask the LOCAL inspector. You ARE getting a permit and inspections, correct?

Also make sure the insert you purchase allows the gas line to come in from the bottom center. I believe many (all?) do.
