Dryer Vent
Does anyone know where to a dryer vent that fits INSIDE the "4 duct? All I find are one's that the collar fit outside the duct. I bought one before at Lowe's but now all the have is outside fit. Thanks.

The crimped end will fit on the inside. The straight end fits on the outside.

They are made that way because if the vent fits inside the duct, it will create a lip in the pipe that will collect lint and eventually clog and/or become a fire hazard. Dryer vents should always be assembled so the crimped ends of all the joints face away from the dryer and toward the wall cap. You would be better off enlarging the hole (if that's the problem) so you can assemble it in the proper direction.

I have vinyl siding. When I remove the cracked old one there is your duct. It comes through the 2x6 framing. Perfect fit so there is no way to put a vent with collar or any ducting on the outside of the duct. Just like if you were to drill a "4 hole in a 2x6 the duct would fit through the 2x6 but there would be no way to fit a dryer vent collar on the outside. Killer is I have replaced this before. Can't find one that fits the ID now.

Ok. So I se I'm going to have to modify this and enlarge the hole. What would be the best way to enlarge my 4" hole? I think a sawzall would be difficult up against the vinyl siding. Thanks.

If I understand you correctly.... you just want to replace the outside hood. Those hoods come with a piece of 4" metal duct.....usually pretty poorly attached. Remove that duct and slide the new hood over the existing duct. I've done that several times with the quality vent hoods from the depot.

You want the hood to fit the outside of the duct coming from inside the house. Otherwise, you will have an edge of the hood facing upstream which will catch lint coming out of the duct.
