Just a thought on protecting buried PVC water line...
Since I could not find anything on the below idea anywhere on the net, I assume it is a stupid if not wasteful ($) idea.
The idea is, why not slip tubular foam pipe insulation around PVC before lowering it into the trench to help protect it from any small rocks that work through sand/ soil over time.
I will sleeve the line in 3" PVC under my driveway, but my hillside is a bit rocky, even though I will use a bed of sand in the trench.
$1-2 per 6 foot piece seems pretty cheap for a little extra protection, if indeed it would offer any.
Any thoughts to this?

Welcome to the forums! It would only work for short term as the foam will degrade pretty fast subterranean. IMO, the money could be spent better. Hard sleeving would be a better idea.

PVC pipe buried in the ground can handle A LOT of weight/pressure without getting damaged. It really is not an issue.
The thing about weight/pressure on buried pipes is usually from roots, a growing root can put an incredible amount of pressure on a pipe of any material, but from anecdotal experience metal pipes tend to bend and PVC / Cement tends to break.
