Pressure regulating valve not working
House water bill doubled ended up replacing everything in the toilet's tank but was still running at night. House water pressure was 70 psi but up to 130 psi at night. Used to have whole house water filter in laundry room so plumbing exposed there. Installed Sharkbite EB-45 3/4 inch push on PRV this covers all of the plumbing minus the back yard hose. House water pressure set to 50 psi but still 130 psi at night. Customer service at Sharing suggested I return valve and get a new one... Same results. Any ideas?

Do you have an expansion tank on your water heater? If so it may have failed. If not, you probably need to add one, especially with the PRV since as the hot water expands it can no longer expand into the cold water line as the PRV acts as a check valve. The fact that two PRVs act the same likely means the pressure rise is not coming from the water supply, but is internal, and most likely candidate is the water heater.

I thin Carbide hit the nail on the head. It's unlikely that a brand new PRV isn't working as expected.

Hi,This may be an easy check. In the evening shut the hot water power or burner off. Turn the hot water on in the house to cool the hot water tank off a little. Then check the water pressure, then in the morning check the pressure again. If the pressures are about the same the problem is the Expansion tank if there is a big difference its the prv.
