Hello everyone! I'm new here, and extremely new to plumbing. I have what I thought was going to be a very easy project. I want to set up a utility sink in my basement. I was going to tap into my upstairs bathroom sink water and waste lines. My dad brought up an issue that I didn't know about. Since neither of us know the exact code requirements, I thought I would bring it here to make sure it gets done correctly.
The issue comes with venting. My plan was to put the sink in right next to my waste stack, and just attach it to the stack. My dad pointed out that it needs to be vented properly to avoid getting sewer gasses in the house.
I've attached a picture to show you my setup, and any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ben

You cant hook up a sink as you propose in the traditional way unless you find a dry vent somewhere.. Attic?
Your best bet is to install a pumped system and AAV the tank...

Mike,
Why couldn't he cut out the drain stack about 14" above the floor and add a sanitary tee. Pipe to an upturned wye to an AAV, then to the laundry sink trap? It seems to me that would work without the added expense/hassle of a pump. Or am I missing something?
